The Dam Busters

The Dam Busters Review

Outstanding story of the planning of the raid, designing and building the unusual bombs, and the eventual destruction of the target...the hydroelectric dams in the Ruhr Valley in Germany. This story is based on the actual events. At the beginning of WW2 a British scientist working for Vickers Aircraft proposed a special type of bomb that could skip across the water like a marble of flat stone. After many attempts (and failures) he finally get the design right. The RAF bombers drop the bombs and destroy the dams. Stars Richard Todd as the squardon leader and Michael Redgrave as the scientist.(NOTE: this movie was shelved for many years here in the USA because the squadron leader called his black Labrador dog "Nigger".....be advised)

The Dam Busters Overview

The British The Dam Busters is the story of the development and utilization of the "bouncing bombs" in World War II. Michael Redgrave stars as Dr. Barnes Wallis, who developed these unorthodox explosives. Wallis' invention is put to practical use during the British raid on the Ruhr Dams in Germany. Most of the film is devoted to the two years spent in creating the bombs and training the pilots; the final sequence is a special-effects masterpiece, even allowing for the obvious models standing in for the dams. Adapted by R.C. Sherriff from Paul Brickhill's book Enemy Coast Ahead, The Dam Busters was Britain's biggest box-office success of 1955. *** Import from Korea *** Original English language *** Optional Korean subtitle ***
